The Bump

This works best with medium to long hair.
Also, if you would like a bigger bump simply use a bigger rat!

What you need:

A Hair Rat
Which you can learn to make in my previous blog HERE!

Bobby Pins
I use MetaGrip Premium bobby pins from Sally Beauty Supply.
They're about 5 bucks for 300 pins and worth every penny!
They really hold your hair in place all day and they pretty well last forever!!

Hair Spray
I use Schwarzkopf's got2b glued
Blasting Freeze Spray
Depends where you live but you can usually find this
at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, or CVS
My hair is naturally thick and straight and has a tendency to go limp in next to no time but this stuff seriously HOLDS! Note this product will make your hair stiff BUT your style will last allll night.

Hairbrush/Comb
I used a Paddle Brush and a Rat Tail Comb for this hair style.

Let's get started!

I wet set my hair in curlers the night before.
Wet set works best for me but
you can use hot curlers or a curling iron or not curl your hair at all, whatever works best for you!
If you're not wet setting your hair skip down
to the section about parting.

So, first things first, let's get these curlers out.
Photobucket

Like me, you will probably have a mixture
of madwoman-style flyaways
and perfect Bo Peep curls.
Not a good hairstyle, yet, but Do Not Panic!!
It's nothing a paddle brush can't cure!

So start brushing...
Photobucket
...and brushing...
Photobucket
...and brushing.
Photobucket
Seriously do not be afraid to brush your wet set curls.
You've gotta bend them to your will!
At this point it doesn't have to be perfect
but you do want it to be all brushed so your hair is easier to work with.

Part your hair starting at the crown of your head
and ending at your temple.

Comb that section of hair smooth.
Photobucket

Pull the rest of your hair into a loose ponytail
to keep it out of your way for now.
Photobucket

Place the hair rat at the crown of your head
using your bobby pins to pin it to your hair.

While you pin move the rat around til you
get the silhouette you desire...
Photobucket
...and keep pinning...
Photobucket
...and shaping.
Photobucket

Make sure you use enough bobby pins
so it sits securely on your head.
Photobucket

Once you have the rat in place take the ponytail out.
Photobucket

Starting from one side take a section of hair....
Photobucket
...and pull it over the rat.
Photobucket

Take a bobby pin and secure it in the back
Photobucket

Grab the next section of hair and comb it smooth.
(I am leaving part of the bangs for later)
Photobucket
Photobucket

Take a bobby pin and secure the hair over the rat...
Photobucket
...making sure your hair completely covers the rat.
Photobucket

Continue combing sections smooth and pinning it over the rat.

Remember those bangs I was saving for later...
well, it's later.
Photobucket

Comb your bangs up so you can have a little lift in the front.
Photobucket
Take the hair and start rolling it...
Photobucket
...til you have a curl...
Photobucket
..and pin it in place.
Photobucket
Photobucket

You want it in this kind of shape.
Photobucket
And here it is:
Photobucket

Now that you have everything pinned and
in place you'll need hair spray!!
Photobucket

Spray your hair all over
(the squinty face is optional).
Photobucket

Shape your hair while the hairspray is still setting.
Photobucket

Smooth everything including the bangs
because once this stuff dries your hair ain't goin' nowhere.
Photobucket

Once you're happy and it's all set give it one final spray over.
Photobucket

 you can stop here...
or you can add some accessories such as flowers
or a bandana which is what I'm going to do this time.
Photobucket

I place it under my hair in the back...
Photobucket
...and tie it between the bang curl and the bump.
Photobucket
Photobucket

Brush your hair one final time aaaaaand...
Photobucket
Photobucket

voila you're done!!
